AWIL 174 - Ms Mohammed

Rock n’Dhol island Punk, Ms. Mohammed on this A World in London! Click:

Ms Mohammed has been making huge waves on our music scene since releasing her debut E.P. Alibi in 2017. Her sound is led by brave, bold, punk rebellion, punctuated with gutsy guitar riffs, pounding drums, and a whole rainbow of rhythms drawn from her multi-cult background of South Asian heritage, Trinidadian roots, plus London life over the last decade. This is music that stands up and demands to be heard, especially when it’s topped with her Pop-edged perfect vocals that sit deep within the mix. Though lyrics are not her starting point, they’re conscious & considered, from a mind brimming with intelligence and wit calling out racism, sexism, and a whole host of world inequalities. Ms. Mohammed doesn’t define herself as a singer/songwriter yet she handles song structure eloquently, and produces her own tracks, plus plays most of the instruments, roving through percussion, bass, and lead guitar. Despite not having any brown female musician role models when she was growing up, Ms.Mohammed has carved out her own path, strong, unique, and defiant - it’s likely she will be the one to fill that gap for future generations. Just four tracks on her Alibi E.P. tell us that when she comes to drop a full album, it will be a magnificent tour-de-force! and Find out more at and see her live at Poplar Union on August 31st!
