AWIL 129 - DubMarta

Soul-stirring reggae by DubMarta on this A World in London! Click:

Italian born bassist/composer Marta Riccardi formed her London band in 2013 with percussionist Toby Gutmann, guitarist Nick Cornu, and Junior Nascimento on trumpet. Together they ride the excellent riddims & rhymes written by Marta, queen of melody and b-lines. All the essential ingredients of dub are in the mix – echoes, delays, and deep phat bass – compelling you into their groove, but with the added bonus of a horn section, topped with Marta’s sultry smooth voice. DubMarta’s unique & heady concoction has taken them to prime fixtures in the international Reggae calendar including SunSplash. Their next stopover on stage is in Turin, but you can catch them here in London on July 15th at the Lambeth Country Show. In a week when London has been shaken, and stirred, again, close to Resonance FM HQ at London Bridge & Borough Market, we take inspiration from Marta’s lyrics, ‘Look forward, not back, to see the light.’
