Music that you’ve never heard but wish you had, with Seby Ntege Band on this A World in London! Click: https://www.mixcloud.com/Resonance/a-world-in-london-4th-april-2018/
So much sparkling talent was squeezed into our studio Wednesday collected around phenomenal multi-instrumentalist Seby Ntege - Uganda’s premier musical torch-bearer! We lost count of exactly how many instruments Seby plays, but grasped they include the adungu harp, akogo thumb piano, amadinda xylophone, the endingidie one-string fiddle, Ugandan panpipes, various percussion, and his latest strings' the kora - the West African harp learnt in between shows whilst on tour with mighty Gambian Londoner Sona Jobarteh. Seby employs this polyrhythmic arsenal with his emotive voice to share upbeat, compulsive dancefloor songs, and distils his 15 years as a Ugandan in London into powerful & personal lyrical content in multiple languages including Luganda, Swahili, Lusoga and English. We heard how each of Seby’s trusted comrades in the band sought him out and the characters in the band fit perfectly like jigsaw puzzle pieces each bringing something special. There’s fellow vocalist & Ugandan lullaby queen Diana Lwanga, student of soukous Mr. Will on guitar, well travelled Lucas Keen on drums, and bassist Rob Stevens on production. Together their joyful hi-energy performance is infectious, updating traditional Ugandan rhythms like Bakisimba and at last stamping the pearl of Africa's overlooked sounds on the world map. All set to launch their superb debut album ‘Five Notes’ at the appropriately pan-African celebration Mwalimu Express taking over Rich Mix London on April 15th, Seby and the band set out on an Arts Council funded 10 date UK later this year! Be at Rich Mix for the beginning of the journey! A World In London listeners can get a 20% discount off the album online at Sebyntege.co.uk.
